This book is the third in a series of small, affordable publications produced by the Galerie de l’UQAM. It includes an essay by the curator Julie Bélisle and a brief text by the artist. Monique Régimbald-Zeiber’s Éclats de Rome is one of a series of works in her Série des grandes romancières, which examines the writings of major women authors in a new light. Éclats de Rome is constructed around the novelist Elsa Morante. In keeping with her inquiries into the relationship between writing and painting, the artist focuses on Morante’s novel La Storia, in which the major story of the Second World War is intertwined with the personal story of the novel’s principal character, Iduzza, in Rome.
