The exhibition

Œuvre à géométrie variable by Jean-Yves Leblanc, professor in the fine arts department, is constituted of fifteen geometric volumes originally measuring 10 ½ ” x 14 ” in painted plywood, the planes of which have been modified and are connected by hinges. These disarticulated boxes then take on various appearances, offering new shapes.

All the initial volumes were constructed and divided in the same way. They are painted the same color suggesting a play of shadows. Each volume is organized in sequence in the montage, each time different in its presentation. Four of them, however, were transformed by two other artists, Sun Hee Yoon and Michel Niquette, who were invited to participate in this work. It is a game of transgression and restriction that reveals both the confrontation of individual practices and a concern for formal unity.

Œuvre à géométrie variable is presented at the same time as Stèles et pavots (les jardins séculaires) by Michel Savoie and Fugue pour une fleur by Jean-Jacques Fauchois, which is in the small gallery room.
