Unveiling of the 2019-2020 program

22 July 2019

Galerie de l’UQAM’s 2019-2020 season will question our complex relations to our surroundings, at a time when our environment is experiencing significant changes.

Galerie de l’UQAM will start the year off on a strong note, hosting the 2019 edition of MOMENTA | Biennale de l’image, The Life of Things. In a critical perspective regarding material overconsumption, this edition brings out universes that are constructed between individuals and their environment. This event will be followed by an important solo exhibition displaying never-before-seen photographs and videos by Emmanuelle Léonard in November. Produced by Galerie de l’UQAM, Deployment is the result of a 2018 artist residency with the Canadian Forces in the High Arctic.

In February, the gallery will present These Rooms of Earth and Stones. Applying an approach both artistic and scientific, artists Michel Boulanger and Katja Davar explore landscape transformation caused by climate change and processing of the earth by humankind. Heidi Barkun, graduating Master’s student in Visual and Media Arts, will simultaneously showcase LET’S GET YOU PREGNANT!, an exhibition largely based on testimonies from women who have gone through unsuccessful in vitro treatments.

Moreover, a new solo exhibition featuring Françoise Sullivan will take place in Greve in Chianti, Italy. Françoise Sullivan. Œuvres d’Italie is comprised of a body of works that attest to her numerous trips to Italy, where she met several leading figures in the art world.

We should also mention Passage à découvert, an annual event for graduates of the Bachelor’s program in Visual and Media Arts, as well as the continuation of the extensive virtual exhibition Canadian Art as Historical Act.
