Renée Chevalier, a graduating master’s student in fine arts at UQAM, will present the exhibition Journal alternatif : mille cent jours dans la vie de Renée Chevalier ou un amour de soi at the Galerie de l’UQAM from September 9 to 18, 1988.
The exhibition includes a series of ten large-format acrylic canvases developed around the theme of a woman in a swimsuit, wearing high heels and seen from the back. This simple character displays an intimate form of exhibitionism as defined by Renée Chevalier.
“My first accomplishment goes through a retrospective of my life, my little story. It is a journey, an ontological questioning, God in everyday life, the crossing of my initiation in a constant versatility passes by the analysis then the systematic rejection of the past to achieve the integration of my symbols. They are the scattered crumbs on Petit Poucet’s path … Passionate love, desire to be born for oneself, the search for my language through painting. It is about the overall acceptance of my pictorial approach, of the intimate element in a spontaneous gesture.”
Journal alternatif is made up of movements, expressiveness, heels, glasses, pious images and colours, a lot of colours. Renée Chevalier accepted yellow and from that point, it all happened. Colour has become her structure.
