The Conseil québécois de l’estampe presents Estampes 89: Mutations, a traveling exhibition bringing together 40 artworks by its members. The selection was made by a jury made up of Ms. Francine Périnet, art historian and director of the visual arts department at the University of Ottawa, Messrs Denis Martin, curator of works on paper at the Musée du Québec and Antoine Pentsch, artist. Five artists were invited to add their works to the selection of this jury: Francine Beauvais, Gilles Boisvert, Roland Giguère, Paul Lussier and Pierre-Léon Tétreault.
This exhibition is the contribution of the Conseil québécois de l’estampe to the celebrations of the Bicentennial of the French Revolution. Estampes 89: Mutations emphasizes the “transmutations” of tradition printmaking techniques in Quebec. From French academicism to contemporary imagery, the original print is constantly reinvented by artists. Estampes 89: Mutations provides an overview of the current trends of Quebec artists. All printmaking techniques are represented there.
