Organised by the International Program of National Museums of Canada and The Japan Foundation

January 14, 1987 - February 15, 1987

Opening: January 13, 1987, 8:00 pm

An exhibition devoted to prints will be held from January 14 at the Galerie de l’UQAM. Entitled Contemporary Japanese Print 1950-1983, this traveling exhibition of the International Program of National Museums of Canada brings together the works of thirty-nine artists whose reputation as printmakers has been recognized both abroad and in Japan.

The exhibition, organized by The Japan Foundation, showcases more than thirty years of contemporary production, divided into eighty prints.

This exhibition aims to show the present state of Japanese prints, after the Second World War. On one hand, it offers a representative panorama of new trends, and on the other hand, it introduces artists who demonstrate originality regarding their use of traditional woodcut techniques.

Printmaking has evolved very rapidly over the past thirty years. The diversity of printing media, invested by artists working in the fields of design, architecture and fine arts and the quality of the works’ execution, are characteristics of the contemporary Japanese printmaking landscape, who has distinguished itself on the international scene.
