Galerie de l’UQAM unveils its programming for fall 2021!
July 28, 2021
Galerie de l’UQAM’s 2021-2022 season starts off with a bang this fall, with two large-scale exhibitions presented in collaboration with major partners from the international arts scene.
As of September, visitors will be invited to discover MOMENTA Biennale de l’image’s newest edition, entitled Sensing Nature. On the one hand, this event explores the concept of a human who is sensing nature, perhaps holding a blueberry picked in a forest, exposed to various modes of perception; on the other hand, it assumes nature sensing back. In acknowledging this reciprocity, the biennale recognizes that we are in relation with nature, that we are of nature.
Later this fall, the gallery will host Êtres/lieux, a major solo exhibition by Enrique Ramírez, co-presented with the École nationale supérieure de la photographie (Arles, France) and the Fresnoy – Studio national des arts contemporains (Tourcoing, France). Showcasing his first solo exhibition in Canada, the Chilean artist is known for his sensitive treatment of biopolitical themes both historical and current, such as the Pinochet dictatorship and the politics of migration, interpreted through the prismatic motif of the sea.
Finally, last chance for the public to make the most of exhibitions Que savez-vous de moi ? and QUADrature, as they enter their final moments. While the former, from the Paroles d’images series, presents the work of Céline Huyghebaert and Sophie Jodoin across the street-level display windows of UQAM’s Judith Jasmin Pavilion, the latter brings together 4 curators and 16 artists in a four-act project conceived specifically for digital screens. As for the colossal online exhibition Canadian Art as Historical Act, it will be maintained until May 2023.
