First Nations artists reactivate the ancestral social roles of Indigenous women by offering other modes of expression based on women’s knowledge and social skills. The public activity Makusham mishtashkeu is divided into two sharing circles that will bring together and honour a few key women artists offering innovative ways of considering and questioning practices in Kepek.

The first circle will include curator Sonia Robertson and artists Marie-Andrée Gill, Sophie Kurtness, and Soleil Launière, all of whom are from Mashteuiatsh. They will share the techniques and practices that they explored to express their imaginaries of the Nitassinan territory in the exhibition Eshi uapatakau ishkueuatsh tshitassinu / Regards de femmes sur le territoire.

The second sharing circle, titled Déverser le territoire pour que pousse le lichen, will reflect on decolonizing exhibition spaces, which involves a process of transforming spaces and deconstructing, overthrowing, and inverting power relations. The audience will hear and interact with Eruoma Awashish, Hannah Claus, and Sonia Robertson, three inspiring Indigenous artists-curators, in a discussion moderated by Caroline Nepton Hotte.
