This exhaustive catalogue is an occasion to take stock of the subtle work of Stéphane La Rue, a major figure in the new generation of Montreal painters. With essays by curators Louise Déry and Marie-Eve Beaupré, the catalogue includes around fifty reproductions of works produced between 1993 and 2007. For more than ten years, in a tightly circumscribed production, La Rue has explored painting’s inexhaustible potential for illusion while examining perceptual phenomena induced in conditions of monochromatic white. Four guest writers also offer their take on La Rue’s oeuvre. This publication won an award in the 2009 Grafika competition.
