Paper Gardens is a workshop for children aged 6 to 11 (grades 1 to 6) and their families, offered in collaboration with Éco-quartier de Saint-Jacques, an environmental program mandated by the Association sportive et communautaire du Centre-Sud. Using a thoughtful and creative approach, this workshop invites children to design a garden from reclaimed paper, inspired by the subjects addressed by the artists presented at the Galerie de l’UQAM, to raise their awareness of environmental issues while stimulating their imagination. During the workshop, eco-responsible kids learn about the lifecycle of paper, the ecosystem of trees, and the importance of reusing materials to reduce their ecological footprint. This creative workshop by MOMENTA Biennale de l’image offers them an opportunity to develop critical judgment and become aware of their capacity to be agents of change in society, as awareness is a driving force for creation!

About the Association sportive et communautaire du Centre-Sud

Éco-quartier de Saint-Jacques is an environmental program funded by the borough of Ville-Marie in 1995. The Association sportive et communautaire du Centre-sud is the host organization for the program in the Saint-Jacques district. As part of its mandate, the organization supports and mobilizes residents in their environmental actions focused on local concerns. The activities involve nature and biodiversity, eco-citizenship, and waste reduction. The Saint-Jacques district extends from Sherbrooke Street to the St. Lawrence River and from Champlain Street to Robert-Bourassa Boulevard. The district’s economic, social, and cultural diversity is a great asset, although it comes with its own environmental issues. To deal with these issues, Éco-quartier de Saint-Jacques relies on the collaboration of the district’s residents, organizations, and institutions. Its approach is based on awareness and education through activities and projects, in partnership with other stakeholders, to build sustainable and integrated solutions to environmental issues.
