Stephen Schofield
I and I

2006

Ceramic, cotton, sugar
45 x 98 x 23 cm

Gift of the artist

The sensual presence of Schofield’s subject, which in this case is the sexual body in a state of exaggerated expressiveness, invites the viewer to engage in a physiological relationship with the work. While Butthole 2 trades in the particular relationship between sexuality and intimacy – where the artist is complicit in provocativeness – I and I invites us to consider the repercussions of the evocative representation of a bodily gesture.
