« Le phénomène Vaudou est mal ou très peu connu de ce côté de l’Atlantique, et souvent, par ignorance ou manque d’information, associé à la pensée sauvage ou assimilé peu ou prou en Occident chrétien à la magie Noire. »

The exhibition

In search of our community roots, in search of our national identity, in search of knowledge and light, this exhibition around the temple of Voodoo wants to highlight one of the problematic aspects of Haitian culture. There have been all forms of repression against voodoo and its practitioners for so long! There are so many prejudices about voodoo cultural practices! It has almost always exclusively been approached from a religious point of view and compared with Christian religions.

What if it was more than a cult, a culture! Could we not articulate Voodoo in cultural terms?

Temple Vaudou, carrefour de la culture populaire haïtienne seeks present Voodoo as an artistic and cultural practice. The exhibition mainly shows objects and symbols related to the Rada, Petro, Congo rites, and to the Guédés family.
