J’habite une maison outremer : Ma rue
Acrylic on canvas
210.7 x 152.2 cm
Gift of the artist
J’habite une maison en outremer by Jocelyn Jean shows the house motif that has been evident in the artist’s praxis since late 1995. The physical qualities apparent in painting atmospheric aspects give way to abstract spaces that show reality as if by twilight. Jean plays subtly with the nebulous shapes in this work by applying tonal layers of paint. The carefully drawn lines in turn make reference to diagrams in the hard sciences, and to the geometric underpinnings of how linear perspective and Euclidian space are constructed.
