Ginkgo café & bar

Refus contraire is opening up to the public for an evening of public speaking and various forms of refusal. A reflection of the ideas behind the exhibition, artists from all disciplines such as dance, theatre, performance art, poetry, literature and visual arts, as well as intellectuals, are invited to participate in a politically-minded evening. The subject: refusal as a force and form of creation in the social and artistic space. Poets France Théoret, Benoit Jutras and Oana Avasilichioaei, choreographer Lara Kramer and performer Sarah Chouinard-Poirier will be offering their thought-provoking texts and electrifying presence to start the night off.

If Refusal Had a Form resists global consensus, all the while opposing social sedation sought by current politics. Here, protest is seen as an act of rekindling communities and individuals. This gathering furthermore invites us to reconnect with the positive aspects of insubordination. In this final event of Refus contraire, the thoughts and questions brought upon by the exhibition will be further examined, collectively and in an unanticipated manner.

This will be an open space where formal, intimate and collective experimentations, theoretical and absurd texts, readings, monologues and actions, as well as sound, material, voice and body-based works are welcome.
