With this publication, exhibition curator Louise Déry takes a first retrospective look at the production of Jocelyn Robert. While Robert is one of the most significant figures in media art in Quebec, his work is seldom considered from a theoretical or critical point of view. This first monograph on the artist focuses on one of Quebec’s most fascinating artistic practices in recent years. Though Robert’s art is steeped in the latest technology, here it is lodged in a conventionally physical book that nonetheless effectively conveys its essence in a relationship to reality that reinvents all the senses. The exhibition Jocelyn Robert. The Inclination of the Gaze was presented at the Galerie de l’UQAM from February 25 to April 2, 2005.
