Patrick Bernatchez. Lost in Time is the first catalogue devoted exclusively to this artist. Issued to accompany the exhibition of the same name held at Galerie de l'UQAM in 2011, it covers more than fifteen years of work in drawing, mirror-based etching, fashioning curious objects, altering musical compositions, and filmmaking. The main focus is on Bernatchez's latest project, Lost in Time, which revolves around a wristwatch that takes a millennium to complete a full rotation and includes the film 180°, in which a musician suspended from a concert hall ceiling performs a piece by Belgium composer Guillaume Lekeu on an equally upended piano. The book features a curatorial essay by Mélanie Boucher on the new Lost in Time series, which she compares with the artist's earlier works, as well as an analysis of the Chrysalides film trilogy by the film historian Michel Marie and an essay by Bernard Schütze that delves into the mechanics of the watch, which defies our concept of time. The graphic design is by Uniform.
